There's a new BIOS in town for Geforce RTX 3080 FTW3. The BIOS increases the maximum power limit to 450W. This is a significant upgrade to the graphics card, which ships with a 400W power limit by default. The BIOS is not intended for casual gamers, it is only for overclocking and does not guarantee higher performance. The company's GPU management software, Precision X1, remains best-in-class. It lets tinkerers push performance even further with granular overclocking features and the ability to raise the power limit even further.
It remains a killer exclusive feature for graphics card nerds and can help you keep an even closer eye on your overclocking endeavors. Graphics performance with Nvidia's GPU boost technology relies on power draw, thermals and your graphics card's cooling capability. Adding more power into the mix will not guarantee additional performance unless thermals are kept in check, which means that this extra power will only be useful to those which cool-running systems. With this update, EVGA's offering its customers more potential overclocking headroom by allowing their graphics cards to draw more power from systems. This increase in power limit will require to use power supplies that are capable of handling the strain, with EVGA recommending 850W units for single-GPU systems. EVGA has just released an optional BIOS update for RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra users, an update which increased the graphics card's power limit to 450 watts, representing a 50W increase over the GPU's stock configuration.
The RTX 3080's 450W max power limit will help enthusiasts push the cards to its limit. Overclocker looks to beat the best of the best with their expertise, and a suitable card is needed to be the best. There are also few custom graphics cards to feature a 400W or above high power limit. EVGA RTX 3080 FTW3 is a triple-fan and triple-slot graphics card powered by (you've guessed it) three 8-pin power connectors.
The Ultra variant, for which the BIOS is intended, has a boost clock of 1800 MHz. For comparison, the ROG STIRX OC from ASUS has a boost clock of 1935 MHz. Meaning, both cards are not going to offer the same performance out of the box, but they should theoretically match each other once overclocked. Most people don't need this level of firepower, either. The non-Ti GeForce RTX 3080 delivers exceptional 4K and 1440p gaming performance for half the price of the FTW3 Ultra.
You're paying twice as much for frame rates that are only 10 to 15 percent faster. Price-to-performance becomes seriously out of wack up here at the luxurious end of graphics cards. For overclockers though, the 450W XOC power limit BIOS can net far better overclocks.
The latest BIOS for the EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra comes specifically tuned towards the high-end overclocking and enthusiast community. The reason is simply that the higher power limit won't translate into faster gaming performance. Users will be able to get almost the same amount of performance at the default TDP of 380W which can be adjusted to 400W maximum limit through an overclocking utility such as EVGA's own Precision X1 software. This isn't a worst-case test; this is a GPU-bound game running at a GPU-bound resolution to gauge performance when the graphics card is sweating hard. If you're playing a game that also hammers the CPU, you could see higher overall system power draws. Rainbow Six Siegestill dominates the Steam charts years after its launch, and Ubisoft supports it with frequent updates and events.
The developers have poured a ton of work into the game's AnvilNext engine over the years, eventually rolling out a Vulkan version of the game that we use to test. By default, the game lowers the render scaling to increase frame rates, but we set it to 100 percent to benchmark native rendering performance on graphics cards. It probably doesn't draw this much power by default if you don't touch the clocks - it merely lifts the limit up for when you want to overclock, so you won't run into the power draw ceiling as quickly.
I do wonder how much more realistic performance people can get out of these cards. By "realistic" I mean something that you could run daily and see a justifiable difference in performance to warrant the extra power draw. For those of you lucky enough to bag yourself an RTX 3080, an even luckier few will have the EVGA RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra, which happens to be one of the fastest 3080's on the market. However, if you like making your cards run even faster and consider yourself an "extreme overclocking user" then do I have some good news for you. EVGA has just released a Beta BIOS update to increase the FTW3 Ultra's power draw to 450W in order to achieve even higher clock speeds. EVGA has released a new BIOS for its top of the line GeForce RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra graphics card which ups the power limit to an insane 450W.

The FTW3 Ultra is physically massive, draws a truly staggering amount of power, and its heat and noise levels are simply good, not exceptional. But muscle cars always guzzle gas and run hot to achieve their impressive performance, and EVGA's graphics card is no different. Those potential "drawbacks" aren't drawbacks whatsoever for the sort of person who would buy this card.
This evaluation focuses purely on traditional gaming benchmarks. We test a variety of games spanning various engines, genres, vendor sponsorships , and graphics APIs . We've also enabled temporal anti-aliasing to push these cards to their limits.
We run each benchmark at least three times and list the average result for each test. Don't let that dissuade you from the card, though. At this time, it is unknown how much this extra 50 watts of potential power draw will impact the RTX 3080's overclocking performance.
As always, overclocking performance will vary on a GPU-by-GPU basis thanks to the "silicon lottery". EVGA's RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra features three 6+2 pin PCIe power connectors, allowing these graphics cards to draw 450 watts of power with ease. The same is not true for RTX 3080 graphics cards which use two 6+2 power connectors. I've seen EVGA say the stickers on the cards are to alert them if the card was opened when received for step up. That way they know to open the card and inspect thermal pads and whatnot to ensure everything is still good for when they relist it for sale as b-stock. Brad Chacos/IDGThe RTX 3080 Ti and 3090 Founders Edition models draw similar power levels, which makes sense, as the RTX 3080 Ti's reference specs essentially make it a faster-clocked 3090 with half the GDDR6X memory.
But putting the pedal to the metal to surpass the 3090 requires significantly more juice. The FTW3 Ultra consumes 100 watts more power under load than both of Nvidia's cards. That said, if you're investing in an ultra-fast, built-for-overclocking hot rod of a GPU like this, power levels probably aren't your primary concern. EVGA was wise to throw efficiency concerns out the window in my opinion. You can't use the presets to benchmarkGears Tactics, as it intelligently scales to work best on your installed hardware, meaning that "Ultra" on one graphics card can load different settings than "Ultra" on a weaker card.

Altough, they will certainly byppass this to give the card even more power! But 450W shouldn't be sustainable, cards at these kinds of power rates will die very prematurelly even when cooled to sub-zero temps. I´ve been known to dabble a bit in OC got my i7 7700k dellided under liquid metal 5.1ghz 1.36v under a 360mm aio only what to get the temps under control. Rams 3200mhz cl16 pushed to 3333mhz and tightened timings. As for gpu´s theres not much to get out of pascal and Ampere seems to already be pushed past the sweet spot out of the box. As time goes on seems most chips are already pushed to the limit so no real use to OC anymore.
More then likely you shorted or broke something on the gpu putting the block on. It is worth removing and inspect the card and give it a good cleaning with alcohol and see if she works. If is a evga card they will likely replace it no issues like they did with mine. Sounds like the card you put the hybrid cooler on is dead.
